Our History.

Haddock Baptist Church was founded in April 1907 with nine faithful members in Haddock, Georgia in what was then one of the largest communities in Jones County, located in central Georgia. For almost 60 years the church was pastored by ministers who were bi-vocational or were full-time ministerial students at Mercer University in nearby Macon. Over 25 pastors served the church, in this capacity, all before 1964. Since 1964 when the church called its first seminary-trained and full-time pastor until today, a span of over 54 years, six pastors have served the church. The shortest pastoral tenure was two years, and our current pastor has served for over 28 years.

The history can also be traced by examining the church locations and buildings through the years. In its beginning the church was blessed to have the support of the local Methodists who allowed use of their building for worship for the first several years. In 1909 the church purchased property at what is now the intersection of Ethridge Road and Haddock Drive. The church constructed its first sanctuary there in 1913, and it remained in use until 1978. At this original site, a concrete block education building was constructed in 1961 to provide classroom space and a fellowship hall. At the close of 1977 a gift of property was donated to the church which included the old Haddock school building which held its last class in 1967. Additional property was purchased adjacent to the school, and transforming the old school into a sanctuary began. The first worship service was held in this building in October 1978. Transepts to increase the size of the sanctuary were added in 1984. A two-story education building and fellowship hall was added to the back of the old school building in 1996-1997.

The final building on our church campus was the construction of a new sanctuary which was built in 2005 and houses our church offices and provides additional adult classrooms. Three major buildings which are connected by our church’s bell tower comprise our church campus. The three buildings include: the original old Haddock School which now serves as our youth center, the Fellowship Hall and Education Building, and our new sanctuary. Ample parking space is available both in front of our youth center and sanctuary and at the rear of our fellowship hall and education building.
